GR20 - Northern Section

-Start of GR20 (Northern Section)

Day 7: Attempt Variant route via Monte d'Oro






(These birds mean the rain is coming...)

-Get completely soaked, unable to find route onward from top of the mountain we are forced back to Vizzavona


Day 8: Drying out - we visit Corte
...

Day 9: Attempt two - North to Refuge de l'Onda








-Arrive at Refuge de l'Onda for my birthday lunch



-Continue on via variant ridge route to Refuge de Pietra Piana



-Weather turns, we get wet but arrive safe and sound in Refuge de Pietra Piana.

Day 10: Leave Refuge de Pietra Piana












-Arrive at Refuge de Manganu, but still early, we continue walking.




-walk to bergerries de Vaccaghja buy goat cheese, warned of guard in area

-hike mountain... see hut - wonder if guard lives there?


-visit - invited to stay... fire "I must go out with the horses..." is he the guard?





Day 11: Hike to Bergeries de Ballone
-Lac de Nino








-Dog + pups from a bergerie










Day 12: attempt Monte Cinto (reach 2470m of 2706m)





(weather turns - for safety we must return)


Day 13: Cirque de solitude

-We enter the Cirque

-Weather turns, the rain is coming!

-Climb out of the Cirque in the rain



-Descending the hill towards Asco the rain turns to a heavy storm, flooding the path with water. 'TeamSlow' are above - unable to safely descend until the water subsides.


-Arrive at Asco

Day 14: Leaving Asco, hike to Refuge de Carozzu






-Dinner with TeamSlow


-Someone with a sense of humour


Day 15: Hike to Refuge d'Ortu di u Piobbu

-Drying out

-First View of Calvi (we are nearing the end of the GR20)

Sunset - our last evening on the GR20 -








Day 16: Run to Calenzana!

-TeamSlow managed to capture this little fellow, whereas we were running so fast we didn't even see him.


-FINISHED!
